Your View: Never heard of the guy

LAMAR, Mo. — I question the intellect of anyone who would even consider voting for Todd Akin after his inane remarks about “legitimate rape” (whatever that is) and a woman’s body shutting down to prevent a pregnancy when she is raped.

The whole Republican establishment at first repudiated this sort of insanity until some in Missouri thought that Akin was perhaps their last chance to unseat Sen. Claire McCaskill. In my view, and as I have followed her performance, McCaskill has been a big asset to the state and her loss would be regrettable. A recent article in the Globe reported that Akin was well-known all over the state. Well, I have never heard of the guy until the rape issue, and now he has even attracted Newt Gingrich to his side as if that were a game-changer. Akin is a wannabe and that is where he should remain.
