Your View: Issues of the day

JOPLIN, Mo. — I'm going to touch on several issues.

Recently, I bought a new motor scooter. Nice bike. Good price.

Within 15 minutes a rather stupid driver cut me off as I made a turn.

That's issue No. 1. Anyone who rides on two wheels, from a bicycle to a Harley to my little scooter has gone through this on a regular basis. Solution? Don't know.

Issue No. 2: I wrote to the Joplin City Council to suggest it ask developers and builders of the new library complex to plan a designated parking area for scooters and motorcycles.

Two-wheel transportation is a great way to around, and more and more folks are doing so. No response to my letter.

I should note here that I am one of those cranky old people who write lots of letters to people in positions of authority sometimes to complain and sometimes to suggest how to do their jobs.

From Congress to the president, I write them all.

And all of them respond - except the Joplin City Council.

One such letter, I wrote more than a year ago.

It went to the White House and commended City Manager Mark Rohr for his leadership in the aftermath of the tornado.

That's issue No. 3. I don't trust anybody very much. But, I trust Mark Rohr more than the Joplin City Council.
