Voices: Scary stuff

There was an interesting dichotomy between a recent Globe editorial and an article by Arkansas Democrat-Gazette columnist Gene Lyons in the Jan. 29 edition of the Globe.

My opinion on this issue is that President Obama was right on track in taking to task the Supreme Court for its 5-4 decision to remove all limits on the influence of corporations or unions on political decisions. To me, this is scary stuff and common sense says that it is just not right.

On the other hand, it seems to me that the Globe (and also such renegade news entities as Fox News), by the right of free speech, should be able to endorse any candidate that they so choose, and to the best of my knowledge they have never been prohibited from doing this.

The key words are limited and unlimited, and the court has come down on the side of unlimited — which again, to me, is scary.
