JOPLIN, Mo. —
Guest columnist Sarah Anderson (Globe, Jan. 16) wrote a very nice tribute to her parents. What a thoughtful and treasured gift Sarah gave them for their 60th anniversary when she had one of their wedding pictures enlarged on canvas!
The Joplin Museum Complex has thousands of family pictures and negatives taken by Joplin photographer Murwin Mosler.
These are available for free to the families whose loved ones are in the pictures. Some of the pictures date back to the 1940s, so genealogy researchers may want to look for pictures. There are wedding pictures, school portraits, studio sittings and family milestones. Staff and volunteers at the museum spent months organizing these so they are easy to claim.
Check the website www.moslerfamilyphotos.org. Click on “photos” at the top of the site and type in any name, street, or church to see if your family has pictures to claim.
You may be able to surprise a loved one with an old photo that would be a treasured gift.
