Your View: Why not two?

JOPLIN, Mo. — My letter is a response to Gloria Coureton’s letter (Globe, Feb. 4) about moving the library and the effect it will have on people, especially elderly, living close to the downtown area.

It’s already a good location. It’s well-used. So why move it?

Why not build a second library and leave the current one alone? A second one would benefit people living in the south part of town. The current one would benefit people on the north end and downtown area.

We already have two police stations, at least two fire departments, as far as I know two post offices, two Wal-Mart stores and several restaurants that have two or more, especially McDonald’s, which you see everywhere.

The City Council shouldn’t have been so quick to act on this.

The local people should have a say on this. As for the medical school, it would be better located around the 32nd Street area as the Freeman Health System and doctors’ offices are in that area. We’re building a second hospital. So why not another library?
