SARCOXIE, Mo. —
Today I watched a forensic physiologist talk about the shootings in Connecticut, and I think he nailed a lot of the problem. He said it is not one issue but several.
He blamed the media for constant press coverage.
He blamed the mental health system in this country and the lack of adequate health care for people needing it. We are the only country in first class status that does not have universal health care for its people.
He blamed parents for not noticing problems and just pushing children off to their rooms to play violent video games.
He blamed the movie industry for making violent movies that desensitize everyone to death.
Someone asked him why children as the target and he said because it brings attention to the person needing attention. Again alluding to press coverage.
Now that being said, what as a nation can we do? I feel if we are going to have children we need to pay attention to them, be a family, cook meals, show up for teacher meetings, eat together and talk. Don’t just go through the fast-food line, text the child to grab something and then let them go to their room as you have work to do.
Don’t let the child tell the parent what to do; help them, care for them, listen to them and make time for them. Don’t just buy them expensive toys so they will be quiet and leave you alone.
We are all to blame for what this country has become. We as parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles are all in this together. How are we going to do something about it, or just push this into the corner as we have for so many years.
