Your View: Other threats to democracy

LAMAR, Mo. — In Marilyn Beasley’s recent column (Globe, Dec. 13)  she seems to be very sad about President Obama’s re-election.

But she doesn’t seem sad at all about the deplorable mess that he inherited from George W. Bush, a president of one of the most corrupt administrations ever. She isn’t sad about the unnecessary war that Bush started in Iraq, the thousands of American lives lost as a result and the $2 billion cost to the nation per week for it and the Afghanistan war.

And she does not indicate a sadness over the demise of poor old Osama bin Laden and some of his other chieftains all accomplished on Obama’s watch. Ms. Beasley should understand that democracy is threatened when conservatives gain control of the levers of government and can, as Grover Norquist wants to do, “drown the government in a bathtub.”
