Via Christi Hospital bringing ballots to patients for today’s election

From staff reports

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Via Christi Hospital is making sure eligible voters who are in the hospital will be able to vote today by delivering ballots to the patients, and ensuring those ballots will make it the Crawford County Courthouse in Girard on time.

“We all know voting is a right, not a privilege,” hospital spokesman Michael Hayslip said in a statement. “Our goal is to make sure illness or injury do not infringe upon that right as U.S. citizen.”

Hospital staff are going room-to-room to see who would like to vote but won’t be able to visit a polling station.

“The county clerk’s office has made this happen for our patients,” Hayslip said. “The response from the patients and their families has been overwhelming. I’ve spoken with several family members in the past couple days who were worried their loved ones were going to miss voting in the general election. We assured them no such thing would happen while under our care.”
