Long lines greeted early voters this morning when the polls opened and continue to some degree.

The parking lot at the polling place at Galena City Hall was full at mid-morning. Voters leaving and arriving in their vehicles at regular intervals caused some traffic issues.

Democrat Jeremiah “Jay” Nixon, the incumbent governor of Missouri, and his challenger, Republican Dave Spence, of St. Louis, have been using campaign attack ads in an effort to persuade Missouri voters how to vote Tuesday.

Cigarette tax among questions on ballot
Missouri voters on Tuesday will have the option of approving four separate questions on a variety of issues.

U.S. Senate incumbent McCaskill faces challenger Akin
Incumbent Claire McCaskill, a Democrat, faces a challenge Tuesday from Republican Todd Akin in a hotly contested race for her seat in the U.S. Senate.
Also on the ballot will be Libertarian Jonathan Dine.
