GALENA, Kan. — Dozens of prize drawings, musical entertainment and royalty are again features of the annual Galena Days celebration, to be held Wednesday through Saturday, June 6.
The celebration will culminate Saturday with a drawing for a 2009 Hyundai Accent, or $10,000 cash, as well as a fireworks display.
Most of the events take place on the City Hall property. The event is the main fund-raiser for the Galena Fire Department.
Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. each night of the celebration in the community room at City Hall. A different community organization will provide the food each night.
Entertainment will be provided on the main stage each night. Gospel singing with The Missourians and Doug and Connie Spears will be featured from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Route 66 Idol winners will perform at 8:30 p.m., followed by the Beer and Chicken Band at 9 p.m.. Thursday. Duke Mason performs at 7 p.m. and again at 9 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, Diversity will perform at 6 p.m. and Live Wire will take the stage at 8:30 p.m.
Carnival rides also will be on the City Hall grounds each night of the event.
Some of the items to be given away during nightly drawings include lawn mowers, a washer and dryer, grills, patio furniture, an electric range and a $250 savings bond.
Here is a partial listing of events scheduled for Saturday, June 6:
n 8 a.m. —Classic car show, continues until 3 p.m.
n Noon — Horseshoe pitching contest.
n 4 p.m. — Parade.
n 5 p.m. — Birthday cake, celebrating the town’s founding, at the fire station.
n 7:20 p.m. — Announcement of the winner of Beautiful Baby contest.
