Eighty-four images by 66 artists will be featured during PhotoSpiva 2010, the 34th annual national photography competition at Spiva Center for the Arts, 222 W. Third St.

Along with PhotoSpiva Kids — an exhibit featuring works by children ages 4 to 8 — it will open to the public on Saturday and run until April 25.

Winners, who will be announced today during a reception for the artists and Spiva members, were selected by Deborah Klochko, who juried this year’s competition.

Klochko is the former director of The Friends of Photography, located at the Ansel Adams Center. She has also worked at the California Museum of Photography, the International Museum of Photography and Film at the George Eastman House in Rochester, New York and the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

She selected the exhibited works from 908 images submitted by 170 photographers in 35 states. She will present $2,000 cash awards during today’s reception.

Twenty children submitted works for PhotoSpiva kids. The photos were reviewed by professional photographers Linda Teeter and Mark Neuenschwander and Webb City elementary art teacher Nellie Mitchell. Three photos by each child will be displayed, and can be purchased for $25, framed, or $10, unframed.

Spiva is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is by voluntary contribution.
