Fun part of Fourth of July’s festivities

JOPLIN, Mo. — The Four-State Area will host a number of Fourth of July celebrations, ranging from fun and games for kids to live, local music and a number of fireworks displays.

Joplin will kick off its Fourth of July celebration 3 p.m. Wednesday at Landreth Park will a variety of food vendors, which will have funnel cakes, corn on the cob, ice cream, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, shaved ice and other carnival food said Paul Bloomberg, recreation and events manager.

A welcome and presentation of colors by the National Guard will be at 5 p.m. and the Jake Clark Band will perform the national anthem, followed by a country concert set.

Duke Mason is set to perform at 6:05, followed by Felonious Monk, a blues and classic rock band at 7:05 and Big Smitty, a classic rock band at 8:15.

The fireworks show will begin at 9:45 and will be put on by Liberty Pyrotechnics. Celebration participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets, but are not allowed to bring grills or their own fireworks to the event.

The city will offer a free trolley service from Memorial Hall at Seventh Street and Joplin Avenue to the park from 7 to 11 p.m.

“People can come out and enjoy their family and enjoy some local entertainment,” Bloomberg said.

Details: The event will be held at the Grove Sports Complex, 900 East 13 St. It will include the Patriot Guard Riders, The Duttons, free food and drinks and a fireworks display. Details: 918-786-6549.



Oswego, Kan.

Time: 7 p.m. to 10

Date: Tuesday

Details: The event will be held at the Labette County Fairgrounds, located on North Street. It will include live music by Rick Cook, food, drinks and a fireworks display. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Details: 620-795-4433 or visit www.oswegokansas.com.



Carthage

Time: 4 p.m. to 10

Date: Wednesday

Details: The event will be held at Carthage Municipal Park. Vendors, laser tag and carnival food will be available for the Fourth of July celebration. The Carthage Police Explorers will present a flag ceremony at sundown and a fireworks presentation will take place. Details: 417-237-7000.



Powell

Time: Starting at 6 p.m.

Date: Wednesday

Details: The event includes food service, games, baseball, hayrides to the Historic Powell Bridge, live music and fireworks at the Hill and Hollow Grounds. People are to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Proceeds go toward turning the historic bridge into a walking bridge when the new bridge is completed. Details: 417-781-5750.



Chetopa, Kan.

Time: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Date: Wednesday

Details: Events will take place at the Cheptoa City Park. An antique and classic tractor pull will begin at 9 a.m., contest and games for kids will be held, a patriotic pet parade at 6 p.m., Rick Cook and Seminole will perform at 7 and a fireworks display will be shown at 9:45. Seneca

Time: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Date: Saturday, July 7

Details: The event will be held at the Seneca R7 School Farm. Festivities will include a 5K, car show, freedom parade on Main Street, and a fireworks display. Details: 417-776-2100.
