Mother, daughter to share exhibit

CARTHAGE, Mo. — For more than 20 years Donna Roberts has worked with an expanding range of styles and mediums, including water colors, acrylics, and inks to name a few.

Alongside her daughter, Kelly Moreland, Roberts is set to demonstrate her progressing work with her newest exhibition, "Ever-evolving," displayed at the artCentral gallery in Carthage.

"I think some people that see these (pieces) will be amazed to see what can be done with water media," said Sally Armstrong, director of Art Central.

Roberts' display included landscape, still life, and wildlife pieces. Her daughter's work focused primarily on a less conventional field: fiber art.

"(Moreland) works in fiber, in some cases she calls her work 'art quilt'," Armstrong said. "Art quilting is quilting that's never intended to be utilitarian. It has no reason for existing except for art's sake."

Armstrong said that art quilt pieces tend to be smaller in size than traditional quilts and often take the form of wall hangings or pillows.

"(Art quilting) is an unusually detailed form of quilting where the piece really comes off as looking more like a picture as opposed to a repetitious type pattern like a regular quilt would have," Armstrong said.

Moreland had several acrylic pieces on display in the exhibit, in addition to her art quilt pieces.
