Joplin isn’t the only place for hot New Year’s parties this year. Events are scheduled all around the region, from Miami, Okla., to Pierce City.

The events are also varied. Celebrations include a drug-free lock-in for teens, a dance in Stella, opening receptions for art exhibits and a gospel sing in Sarcoxie.

Here are some of the events planned for New Year’s Eve:

• Live music, dinner and fine art will be on tap for New Year’s Eve at Trios, 112 N. Main St.

A full dinner buffet by Chef Raj will begin starting at 7 p.m. Two bands — Folk ’n’ Roll and Big Canoe — will perform starting at 9 p.m. Jerry Long will serve as emcee for a ball drop at midnight.

In the Sunshine Lamp Gallery, two shows will open at 7 p.m. — “The Harmony of Chaos” by Jim Bilgere, and “The Precision of Balance” by Linda Simpson.

There will be a dance party in The Foundry from 10 to 11:45 p.m. with Transform DJs, fireworks in the backyard at midnight, and Philmont takes the Foundry stage at 12:30 a.m. Other activities include a worship service, Xbox gaming, inflatables, dodgeball, volleyball and basketball tournaments and unlimited skating.

The first 250 students in the door get a free T-shirt and there will be free pizza at 3 a.m. along with hourly giveaways including two $500 gift cards, Modern Warfare 2 (for Xbox 360), flat-screen TV, laptop and more.

Tickets are available now at Autumn Ramp Park and at thebridgejoplin.com for $22.50; and on the day of the event tickets are $25. Students should bring money for any food they wish to purchase throughout the night.
