Tree-lighting kicks off MSSU concert series

JOPLIN, Mo. — A tree-lighting ceremony and jazz concert will kick off a season of music next week at Missouri Southern State University.

Southern Lights, the university's annual tree-lighting, will feature singing, cider, hot chocolate, photo opportunities with mascot Roary and horse-drawn carriage rides. The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Oval. Other events, such as cookie decorating and crafts, will be held at an inside location near the Oval.

After the ceremony, the Southern Jazz Orchestra will perform its annual Swingin' Holiday Show. Under the direction of Jeffrey Macomber, the orchestra will play a selection of holiday and jazz classics.

The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. at Corley Auditorium.
