Aided by a series of images taken from the Hubble Space Telescope and narration from an NPR personality, the Ensemble Galilei will open “A Universe of Dreams” during their performance in Joplin.

The ensemble — known for their mix of early instruments and Celtic traditions — will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Central Christian Center, 410 Virginia Ave.

Ensemble Galilei features Hanneke Cassel, fiddle; Allison Edberg, Baroque violin; Kathryn Montoya, recorders, whistle and oboe; Sue Richards, Celtic harp; Carolyn Anderson Surrick, viola de gamba; Danny Mallon, percussion; Jackie Moran, percussion; and Ginger Hildebrand, violin.

During their performance, they will be backed by a series of projected images taken from the Hubble Space Telescope. Neal Conan, host of NPR’s “Talk of the Nation,” will offer narration — including poetry and stories form the likes of Stanley Kunitz, William Shakespeare and a re-telling of a Navajo creation myth.

The performance is part of Pro Musica’s 2009-10 concert season. It is free and open to the public, though donations are appreciated. The Ensemble Galilei’s appearance in Joplin is funded in part by EaglePicher Technologies, LLC.
