Single entrant picks all six Oscar winners

JOPLIN, Mo. — This year's Oscars featured no "clean-up" winner, and ballots submitted in The Joplin Globe's Oscar contest reflected that. Contestants leaned toward selecting several winners from "Lincoln" or "Les Miserables," thinking those movies would clean up.

Each of the winners in our six categories -- Picture, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress and Director -- came from completely different movies.

That means there was one clear winner who picked all six correctly out of 75 entrants: Christina Hayes, of Joplin. She wins $100 for correctly picking "Argo," Daniel Day-Lewis, Jennifer Lawrence, Christoph Waltz, Anne Hathaway and Ang Lee.

Lee threw off our second- and third-place finishers, as well as four others in contention with five correct selections. None of them picked the "Life of Pi" director to win.

Based on a coin flip from two of those entries submitted on Feb. 8, Linda Henderson, of Joplin, wins second place and Bill Showler, of Miami, Okla., wins third. Prizes are $50 and $25, respectively.
