Joplin’s United Hebrew Congregation to celebrate start of Passover with Seder meal

JOPLIN, Mo. — The seven-day Passover observance for Jews worldwide begins tonight at sundown.

Passover celebrates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.

Members of Joplin’s United Hebrew Congregation will hold a traditional Seder service at the synagogue, 702 S. Sergeant Ave. The meal will feature symbolic food items, including unleavened bread, or matzah, symbolizing the bread made from dough that didn’t have time to rise when Israelites fled.

Admission for adults is $28. The service starts at 6:15 p.m.
