Rich Brown: Pentecostal Church of God selects new leaders

The Pentecostal Church of God, with international headquarters in Joplin, has two new leaders following the conclusion of its general convention last week.

Charles Scott, who had been serving as general secretary, was elected general bishop, the highest position in the denomination. The Carthage man replaces Charles Mosier, who died last year.

The Rev. Wayman Ming Jr., former pastor of Joplin Family Worship Center and the denomination’s bishop for southern Missouri, was elected general secretary, the second highest-position.

Scott, who holds a doctorate in theology, as well as a bachelor of science in general business from Missouri Southern State University, is completing a master’s degree in business administration. In addition to serving as an evangelist, he has been a pastor for 11 years and served five years each as a sectional presbyter in the Arkansas District, Arkansas District youth director and administrative assistant to the general secretary/stewardship ministries director at the international headquarters.

Scott’s wife, Janice, was appointed to serve a two-year term as director of women’s ministries during the convention.

The PCG headquarters has been in Joplin since the early 1950s. The denomination is a Trinitarian, evangelical Pentecostal group with more than 1,100 churches in the United States and more than 4,000 outside the U.S.

Rallies get under way

Missouri is among 13 states where a series of rallies with a patriotic theme was recently launched by the Branson-based Revival Fires Ministry, formerly headquartered in Joplin.

“These (Yellow Ribbon) rallies are dedicated to celebrating our freedoms, supporting our troops valiantly serving our country in Iraq, honoring our veterans and providing Bibles for our soldiers deployed to Iraq,” said Cecil Todd, Revival Fires founder and president.

Anyone wishing to schedule a rally at church or in the community may call the Revival Fires Office (417) 272-3660. Donations may also be sent to Revival Fires, P.O. Box 1008, Branson West 65737.
