Joplin
• A Mexican dinner will be served from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cathedral Assembly of God, 1730 Virginia Ave.
The menu will feature beef and cheese enchiladas, tacos, refried beans, chips and salsa and Mexican fried bread.
The cost of the all-you-can-eat meal is $6. Proceeds will go to various women’s ministry projects.

• A free concert and reception are scheduled today at Spirit of Christ MCC, 2904 E. 20th St. (Unity of Joplin building).
Marsha Stevens-Pino will perform her 12th concert in Joplin. She is known as the “Mother of Contemporary Christian Music” and author of “For Those Tears I Died (Come to the Water).”
The concert will be at 6 p.m. today and is open to the public with a free reception to follow. The concert is celebrating Spirit of Christ MCC’s 12th anniversary as well. Parties of four or more people are requested to make reservations.

• A three-day revival will be held Sunday through Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Seventh Street and Pearl Avenue.

• St. Peter’s Parish Council of Catholic Women will hold its monthly meeting after the 8:30 a.m. service on Monday in the church basement.
After a short meeting, members will travel to Crosslines, Third and High streets, for a tour of the facility and presentation by Kathy Lewis, executive director.

• The “55+ Lunch Bunch” will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, 501 W. Fourth St.
Seven singers from Missouri Southern State University will perform some music from Broadway, including selections from the musical “Legally Blonde.” The students are directed by Susan Smith, director of the vocal studies department, and accompanied by Glenda Austin. The singers are preparing for the annual “On Stage” musical performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in Corley Auditorium at MSSU.
Cost of the catered luncheon is $6. The deadline for reservations is noon Monday.

• The nationwide event Fields of Faith will be staged at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fred G. Hughes Stadium at Missouri Southern State University.
The event, held by the MSSU Fellowship of Christian Athletes, will include some music. Students from different FCA chapters will speak and share their favorite scripture or give a testimony.
It is open to youth groups, youth pastors, church members and all interested people. In the event of rain, it will be held in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
Fields of Faith is a program of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It started about four years ago in Oklahoma.

• A chili luncheon will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church, Fourth Street and Pearl Avenue.
The meal will have chili or spaghetti red, dessert and a drink. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children age 12 and younger.
Proceeds will go to the outreach projects.

• The Moms Matter group meets the third Friday of each month at South Joplin Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 1901 Pearl Ave.
The group is for all mothers of young children and meets from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Participants share food, fellowship, support and study. The group is studying biblical mothers and how they can learn from them. A nursery is provided.

• The next meeting of the Greater Joplin Area Chapter of Business Men’s Fellowship will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Ryan’s, 510 Range Line Road.
The speaker will be Jeff Youngblood, who has seen many miracles in his life and the lives of others, including recently opening a business, Momentum 8 Studio, 809 Main St.
All area men are invited to attend the breakfast buffet and hear Youngblood. The chapter will buy the breakfast of all who attend for the first time.

Carl Junction
• Robert Davis will be the guest preacher on Sunday at Carl Junction United Methodist Church, 601 W. Well St.
He will give the sermon at both the 9 and 11 a.m. services.
Davis played high-school football in Virginia and in 1975 he became the first player to ever rush for more than 1,000 yards at Missouri Southern State University. He was later inducted into the MSSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. After graduating from MSSU he received his master’s degree in divinity in 1981 from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City. After pastoring several churches he joined the Navy as a chaplain in 1985. Davis retired from the Navy after 14 years.
From 1994 to 1996, he held the position of Division Officer for the Chaplains Religious Enrichment Development Operation (CREDO). CREDO was originally set up during the Vietnam War to deal with the drug and alcohol problems of Navy personnel. In May 2010 he will graduate from John Brown University with two master’s degrees in community counseling and marriage and family. During this time he has been volunteering his counseling services at Christian Alcoholics and Addicts in Recovery in Jay Okla.

• A series of messages on the return of Christ and Bible prophecy will begin on Sunday at the First Baptist Church, Seventh and Euclid streets.
Pastor Jeff Swart will deliver the sermons. The sermon titles and dates are “The Rapture of Saints,” Sunday morning service; “Answering Your Questions About the Rapture,” Oct. 18, morning and evening service; “Iraq, Iran, and the United States,” Oct. 25, morning and evening service; “Significant World Events that Point to the End of Time,” Nov. 1, morning and evening service; “Getting Ready For the Shout,” Nov. 8, morning service.
