Joplin

• A trunk or treat will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Blendville Christian Church, 2201 S. Picher Ave.

The event will include games, prizes, candy and hot dogs. The public is invited.

• Alex Chesney and Adelle Kanan will provide special music for the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at First Presbyterian Church, 509 S. Pearl Ave.

The First Tuesday lunch will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The menu will include spaghetti red, chili, lasagna, or Frito chili pie and salad, dessert and drink. Cost is $5. Proceeds will benefit the Deacons’ Basket Project. Call ahead for carry-outs.

The Presbyterian Women Circle 1 will meet 10 a.m. Wednesday for a study of “Journey of Faith.”

• Peggy Seitz will be guest speaker at a special Wycliffe Associates banquet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, 501 W. Fourth St.

She will share how people of all backgrounds are rallying together to accelerate Bible translation around the world and how Wycliffe Associates volunteers are playing a pivotal role in the work.

For the past three years, Seitz has served with Wycliffe Associates in Orlando, Fla. She has dedicated herself to the acceleration of Bible translation and serves as an international jobs coordinator. In January, she and her husband, John, will be relocating to Cameroon to work as volunteer center manager, assisting teams of volunteers arriving to support Bible translators in the region. Cameroon is ranked No. 7 on the recent list ranking countries with the greatest need for Bible translation.

• The Christian Women’s Fellowship of South Joplin Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 1901 Pearl Ave., will host a coffee at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the fellowship hall.

There will be a Spiritual Life Study and short business meeting. A vocal program will be presented by Joplin High School’s Sound Dimension under the direction of Susan Idecker.

• Joplin Church Women United will celebrate World Community Day on Friday at Unity Baptist Church, 615 S. Minnesota Ave.

Coffee will be served at 9:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 10 a.m. The program, “Piecing the Earth Together,” will be presented by women of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Special speaker will be Chandra Williams from the Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center.

Church Women United is a nondenominational organization and is open to anyone interested in ecumenical services.

• A bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 706 Byers Ave.

The event will include craft vendors, baked goods, books, jewelry and a silent auction of themed baskets. Lunch will be served for $5 for the public and $2.50 for veterans.

Funds raised during the event will benefit organizations such as the Lafayette House, the Joplin Humane Society, Crosslines and others.

• Ralph Carmichael and his Big Band and Chorus will perform at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, at College Heights Christian Church, 4311 E. Newman Road.

Carmichael has received acclaim for his arrangements of contemporary Christian music. He will perform a concert of gospel songs set to swing music, followed by a Christmas celebration.

Carl Junction

• The annual Lord’s Acre Supper and Auction is set for Saturday, Nov. 7, at New Hope United Methodist Church, rural Carl Junction.

Supper will be served from 4 to 7:30 p.m. The menu will feature homemade chicken and noodles or ham served with salad, vegetables, roll, dessert and beverage. The cost is $7 for adults and youth 11 and older, $3 for children 3 to 10, and free for children younger than 3 years old.

An auction of donated or handcrafted items and homemade food will begin at 8 p.m. The public is invited.

The church is located northeast of Carl Junction, 3/4 mile east and one mile north of the junction of highways 171 and 96 or two miles west and one mile north of the junction of Highways 43 and 96.

Carthage

• The first Friday gospel sing featuring Canaan Bound and friends will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Fairview Christian Church, 2320 Grand Ave.

This month’s performers are Canaan Bound, Duke Mason, Ninth Hour and The Bryants.

The concert is free and open to the public. No tickets are necessary. The gospel sing is held the first Friday of each month.

• The Crusaders for Christ Singers will be in concert at 6:30 p.m. today at Swarsprairie Baptist Church.

There will be a free hot-dog roast starting at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited.

Webb City

• Jesus Name Gospel Church, 9545 County Road 215, has canceled the last Saturday dinner and praise service scheduled for today.

The church pastor has been in and out of the hospital and other church members also have been ill.



• An Ozark area youth rally is slated for 6 p.m. Friday at The Birthing Center, 307 W. Austin St.

Music will be provided by 10&9 and the Faith Fellowship Youth Band. There will be fellowship after the concert. A love offering will be taken.

• The annual bazaar and chili and soup luncheon is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the First Christian Church of Baxter Springs.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature crafts, baked goods and white elephants.

Proceeds will go for missions.



Galena, Kan.

• The Women’s Unlimited Ministry of Galena Assembly, 1500 E. Seventh St., will hold a women’s Bible study at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The topic for the month will be “The Love Choice,” based on I Corinthians 13.

The public is invited and light refreshments will be served. There will be no nursery care provided.

The sale will include candy, baked goods, jelly, fall and Christmas arrangements, wreaths, baby quilts and other craft items. There also will be a silent auction and door prizes.
