Joplin

• Homecoming Sunday will be observed at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Iron Gates Christian Church, 2310 Iron Gates Road.

Bill Richey will be the featured speaker.

There will be a fellowship dinner after the service. The public is invited.

• A benefit gospel concert will be staged at 4 p.m. Sunday at College Heights Christian Church Chapel, 4311 E. Newman Road.

The concert will feature Phil Mehrens, The Trombleys, Murray Hollis with the Q and Family Sound, Tammy Nelson, Faith, Boyd and Blaine Cornell and other special guests.

There will be a silent auction for a Jack E. Dawson painting.

A love offering will be taken. Proceeds will go to the Holly Wampler family.

• St. Peter’s Parish Council of Catholic Women will hold its monthly meeting at 8:30 a.m. Monday in the church basement at 812 S. Pearl Ave.

Mary Greenwood will give a demonstration along with some of her students in the Silver Sneakers exercise she teaches at the Olympic Fitness Center. People are to wear loose clothing if they want to exercise.

A short meeting will follow the demonstration.

• A gospel sing is scheduled at 7 p.m. Monday at the People’s Home Mission, 411 E. Ninth St.

• The 55+ Lunch Bunch of First United Methodist Church, 501 W. Fourth St., will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The Heartland Concert Band will present a program of patriotic music to honor all veterans with a special rendition of “A Salute to Veterans” during which veterans will be asked to stand when their branch of service is saluted. The Heartland Band is composed of more than 30 musicians ranging in age from high school students to senior citizens. Vicki Mays has been the director for the past eight years.

Shannon Kelly, graduate of Drury University with a degree in history, will present a program on World War I and will be attired in period clothing. Kelly also has gathered genealogical research. He began collecting memorabilia at the age of 9 years old.

All veterans are asked to bring memorabilia to be displayed and be returned after the program. A red, white and blue theme will be used throughout the luncheon.

Cost of the catered luncheon is $6. The deadline for reservations is noon Monday.

• A special women’s prayer meeting is scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Assembly, 602 S. Moffet Ave.

Gretchen Evans, of New Testament Holiness Church of Neosho, will be the guest speaker and also minister in song. There will be special music and preaching by the praise team from New Testament Holiness Church.

Women of all faiths are invited to attend the service.

• A family fun night will be meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Fridays in the church annex at South Joplin Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 1901 Pearl Ave.

The event includes snacks and free family activities. Everyone is invited.

• The annual holiday craft festival, held by the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League of Immanuel Lutheran Church, will be staged from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, in Martin Luther School gymnasium, 2616 Connecticut Ave.

There will be more than 40 craft exhibitors from the Four-State Area.

Coffee, biscuits and gravy will be available in the morning. Homemade soup, chili, hot dogs and pie will be sold for lunch. There also will be a variety of baked goods for sale.

Admission is free. Proceeds will go to mission projects. The event is co-sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Anderson

• Anderson United Methodist Church will hold its annual fall smorgasbord from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today in the church fellowship hall, 702 Patterson St.

The menu will be turkey and dressing, ham, green beans, sweet potatoes, corn, homemade bread, salad bar, dessert bar and drinks.

The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for kindergarten through eighth graders, and free for preschool children.

Free deliveries will be available in the Anderson area.

All proceeds will go to help defray insurance cost for the church and parsonage.

Carterville

• Evangelists James and Berneice Gale will preach at 11 a.m. Sunday at Faith and New Hope Church.

James Gale is blind. He is a talented musician, guitar player, singer and speaker, and Berneice Gale plays bass guitar and is a singer. They formerly pastored a church in Cadott, Wis., for 17 years and presently are on the evangelistic field.

To reach the church, take Highway 71 to the Carterville HH turnoff, then take East Outer Road North (also called Guardian Road) three-tenths miles to 20314 Guardian Road.

Diamond

• The Ozark Bible College Choir from Neosho will present a service of singing and ministering at 6 p.m. Sunday at Silver Moon Full Gospel Church.

The choir is comprised of students from all over the United States.

The church is on Highway 59 three miles south of Diamond.



• Tim and Libby Thomas, of Tim and Libby Thomas Ministries of Nashville, Tenn., will be in concert at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at the First Baptist Church of Diamond, 501 W. Market St.

They spread the message of Christ through a variety of Christian music and testimony.

• A chicken noodle dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. today Nov. 7 at Jasper United Methodist Church, 121 N. First St.

The menu will have chicken, noodles, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, gravy, salad and dessert bar and drink.

Local delivery and carry outs are available.

There also will be a silent auction, including two hand quilted quilts.



Sarcoxie

• The annual turkey dinner will be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today in the fellowship room at Sarcoxie United Methodist Church, 11th and Clarence streets.

The meal includes turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade dinner roll and pie and a drink. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children.

A cake walk will be held during the event.

Seneca

n A veteran’s recognition day will be held Sunday at Swars Prairie Baptist Church.

The service will be at 11 a.m. All area military veterans and their families are invited to attend.

If veterans are unable to attend but would like to have their name be placed on the veterans reading list, people should call 417-776-3038 or 417-364-8318. People who know a veteran who is deceased may share that information and are asked to give the veteran’s name and branch of service in which they served.

• Sacred Heart Catholic Church will hold its 60th annual turkey dinner, craft bazaar and silent auction today and Sunday at the church, 909 N. Madison Ave.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Delivery and carryout orders are available.

Tickets, which will be available at the door, are $7 for adults and $3.50 for children.



• The 56th annual Lord’s Acre Celebration will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 26000 Locust Road.

Dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children and free for children younger than age 3.

A bazaar is slated from 4 to 7:30 p.m. The event will feature baked goods, crafts and other items. An auction will be conducted after the bazaar.

The church is two miles north of the junction of Highways 96 and 43, then one mile west on Locust Road, Webb City.

• The fall festival and bazaar is scheduled today Nov. 7 at Wheaton United Methodist Church, 101 Santee St.

The bake sale and bazaar will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The dinner menu will have smoked turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and corn, assorted salads, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, homemade dinner rolls and pie. The price is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 years old and younger.



Galena, Kan.

• A 10-year project is moving closer to completion at Galena Assembly of God, 1500 E. Seventh St.

A grand opening of the new sanctuary is scheduled Sunday. The grand opening service will begin at 11 a.m.
