Steer feedout deadline May 10

MOUNT VERNON, Mo. — May 10 is the deadline to enter steers in the 2008 Missouri Steer Feedout, said Eldon Cole, University of Missouri Extension livestock specialist.

Participants are to get information on how their steers perform in a feedlot and the value of their carcasses, he said.

An entry is to include a minimum five steers born after July 1, 2007, he said. Steers are to be weaned by the middle of April and receive a modified live vaccine plus a booster in two to four weeks.

They are to be gathered in early June at the Joplin Regional Stockyards and hauled to the Tri-County Steer Carcass Futurity (TCSCF) in Iowa. Optimum entry weights are 500 to 700 pounds.
