‘Laps for Life’ blood drive begins
The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will present the first ever “Laps for Life Blood Drive” today, Friday and Saturday at the Joplin Donor Center inside the main entrance to Northpark Mall, 101 N. Range Line Road. Drive hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
Each participant will receive a collectible T-shirt during the event, which is presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts. Participants may also register for door prizes, including two tickets to the Kansas 400 NASCAR race, two tickets to the O’Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals in Topeka, Kan., and racing apparel, including silk-screened camp shirts featuring O’Reilly’s famous Chubster Chevy.

Speaker to discuss diabetes and kidneys
CARTHAGE, Mo. — A program on diabetes and the kidneys will be presented at 4 p.m. Wednesday at McCune-Brooks Regional Hospital, 3125 Dr. Russell Smith Way.
Valerie Goodnight, from the Missouri Kidney Program, will present “Don’t Kid Around with Your Kidneys.” Refreshments and recipes will be provided.

Lung support group to meet
The Freeman Lung Support Group will meet from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in conference rooms A and B at the Freeman Heart & Vascular Institute, 1102 W. 32nd St.
The group is open to patients and family members who are coping with lung disease. Meetings are free and open to the public.

NAMI to offer training course
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Joplin, an organization dedicated to providing support, education, advocacy and research for those with serious mental illnesses, will hold a service provider education course from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the Joplin Family Y South.
The course is a six-hour program for front-line staff at mental-health agencies, police officers and staff, and anyone who deals with those with serious mental illness. It is taught by NAMI-trained family members, consumers and mental health professionals. A free lunch will be provided.
The training is provided free of charge to all registrants. Registration can be completed online at www.namijoplin.org.

AA meetings scheduled
WEBB CITY, Mo. — An Alcoholics Anonymous meeting is held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. each Thursday at Mount Hope Church, 2830 Mount Hope Road.
Those attending should use the third door on the left side of the church.
Clinic offers dental services
The dental department at the Community Clinic of Joplin, 701 S. Joplin Ave., is offering cleanings, sealants, X-rays and exams for children ages 6 to 15 who have no dental insurance.
There is no charge for the service.

Free blood-pressure screening available
A free blood-pressure screening will be offered from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Health Connection in Northpark Mall.
No registration is required.
