A smoking-cessation course and several support-group meetings will be offered by Freeman Health System. • Today: Stroke support group, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., College View Manor, 3828 College View Drive. Free and open to the public. Details: 347-1234. Freedom from Smoking class, 6 to 8 p.m., Freeman Business Center auditorium. Details: 347-7600. • Saturday: Prenatal class, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., conference room at Freeman West, 1102 W. 32nd St. The one-day class will help mothers and labor coaches prepare for childbirth. Free for Freeman patients, but registration is required. Details: 347-6667. • Tuesday: Mended Hearts, 6 to 7 p.m., conference rooms A and B at Freeman Heart and Vascular Institute. Details: 347-3533. Ostomy support group, 7 to 8 p.m., conference room 4E at Freeman East. Details: 358-1852. Course offered for health workers Suicide risk assessment and management training, using the “Question, Persuade, Refer and Treat” approach, will be offered from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, and Friday, Aug. 29. The training will take place in the conference Room 4W of the Freeman Hospital West Tower, 1102 W. 32nd St. Designed for mental health professionals, the course introduces suicide risk management from a medical, psychological and legal perspective. Attendees will learn the QPRT protocol, review suicide risk factors and learn to identify high risk groups, among other things. Counselors, therapists, pastors, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, substance abuse counselors, and other licensed and certified professionals are encouraged to attend. The training is free, but registration is requested as class size is limited. Details: 347-7720.
