Maybe it used to be a simple logistical tool: Kids sat at a separate Thanksgiving table because the adult's dining table was crowded. Maybe it was more of a relic than that, dating back to prehistory when children should've been seen and not heard.
Hot holiday toys will take some power
A look through lists of this year's hot holiday toys indicates that buying stock in battery companies would be a great move in the new year. A lot of these toys are going to take plenty of juice.

A cowgirl, a flamenco dancer and a librarian stood in a kitchen lineup. The cowgirl also wore ladybug wings, perhaps demonstrating a bold refusal to be pigeonholed.
Time-tested toys: Old-fashioned playthings will be available for kids
When kids flock to a collection of old-fashioned toys available for play at Carver National Monument, Douglas Bazar said the first one they usually pick up is the ball and cup. They laugh at it and say it's lame. An hour later, they are still playing with it.
