NEO A&M seeks run game to balance passing attack

Two teams trying to recover from difficult losses will clash today when Northeastern Oklahoma A&M visits Trinity Valley Community College in junior college football.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Bruce Field in Athens, Texas.

No. 13-ranked NEO, 4-1 overall, lost its last game 65-59 in double overtime in another Southwest Junior College Football Conference contest, at Tyler.

The Golden Norsemen took another loss when three defensive players, including two starters, were dismissed from the team. They were charged with burglary, first-degree robbery and kidnapping following an incident in Miami.

Trinity Valley, a bowl qualifier last season, is 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the SWJCFC. The Cardinals saw a 10-point lead disappear during a 21-10 loss to Navarro last Saturday.

“While they have the best defense in the league, their offense has struggled to put points on the board consistently,” said NEO coach Dale Patterson.

NEO is still working to build its running game, a goal which was not met last week despite 156 yards on 32 carries. The Norse did not score a running touchdown.

The Norse lost defensive end Jaiari Dunaway, linebacker Deion Fipps and defensive tackle Chris Carter following their arrests earlier this week. Expected replacements are sophomore De’angelo Jennings, redshirt freshman Zach Maynard and sophomore George Rogers.
