Ground game sparks Caney Valley past Galena

CANEY, Kan. — Anthony Camper and Brian Dixon combined for 457 rushing yards to power Caney Valley past Galena 52-9 Tuesday night in a Class 3A first-round playoff game.

Camper accumulated 245 yards on 16 carries and scored five touchdowns on runs of 6, 15, 42, 3 and 12 yards. Dixon contributed 212 on 18 attempts and touchdowns of 5 and 33 yards.

Galena (6-4) trailed 8-6 after Tyler Cook’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Nick Sivert with 4:18 left in the third period.

But Camper’s second touchdown gave the Bullpups (9-1) a 14-6 lead, and Dixon and Camper combined for three second-quarter TDs to open a 32-6 halftime lead.

Galena’s Ray Slimp booted a 23-yard field goal in the third quarter.
