CARL JUNCTION, Mo. —
Carl Junction, paced by Tyler Armentrout, defeated visiting Lebanon 5-1 and Branson used a 16-hit attack to trim visiting Webb City 15-9 as the Branson Steve Lael Classic continued on Monday.
Games today at 4:30 p.m. are Webb City at Republic and Carl Junction at Rogersville.
Carl Junction, 5-1
Armentrout, a junior right-hander, limited Lebanon to five hits, struck out six and walked one.
Carl Junction, trailing 1-0, garnered its four hits and runs in the fifth inning.
The Bulldogs caught up on Nate Landes’ double and Nathan Doyle’s two-out single. Josh Petty walked and Kurtlin Hulette was hit by a pitch to set up Armentrout’s three-run double. Zach Beyer then singled for the fifth tally.
“Tyler was great,” Carl Junction coach Flave Darnell said of Armentrout. “He threw a lot of first-pitch strikes. He also hit the ball very well.”
Darnell plans to start senior right-hander Ethan Hatfield against Rogersville.
Branson, 15-9
Barrett White stroked four doubles and drove in five runs and Ricky Ward belted a grand-slam homer in a six-run second inning to highlight the Pirates’ attack.
The Cardinals, who lost 17-7 to Rogersville on Saturday, received two hits apiece from Seth Watkins and Dylan Dilworth against Branson.
Dylan Newberry, a junior right-hander, was the winning pitcher for Branson. Garrison Gattis added three singles for the Pirates.
Webb City reached Branson for 11 hits.
