Cassvllle High School senior Kennadi Howard, a two-time all-Big 8 Conference performer in basketball, has signed with Cottey College.
The 5-foot-6 Howard earned four varsity letters for the Wildcats and picked up starting experience as a sophomore, Wildcat coach Chris Shore said Thursday,
“We used Kennadi in a lot of different ways,” Shore said. “We even posted her up. She also could play any part of our defense. She improved her conditioning so that she could play an entire game without it hurting her offensive intensity.
“Kennadi was a huge boost to our offense off the bench as a freshman and sophomore,” Shore said.
“We finished 13-15 overall this season and she was our No. 2 scorer with about an 11-point average behind (6-1 junior) Emily Speakman,” Shore said. “She was on the all-conference second team after earning honorable mention as a junior.”
Dave Ketterman, coach of the NJCAA Division II Comets, said Howard would serve as a “combo guard.”
“We believe she can play shooting guard or the point,” Ketterman said. “She did everything for coach Shore and we like her athleticism. We know she was a middle infielder at Cassville and may play for our softball team after her freshman basketball season.”
Ketterman said the Nevada-based Comets expect to return seven players from 2011-12.
Cottey also has signed 5-5 Caryli Ingles of Forsyth, 5-7 Kat Zumalt of Fordland and 5-10 Cassie Hale of Camdenton.
Ketterman said that Hale secured postseason honors in two other sports (soccer, volleyball) for the Lakers in the Ozark Conference.
Ingles, who scored more than 1,000 career points, averaged 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals as a senior for the Panthers.
Zumalt, who transferred to Fordland after three years at Rogersville, received all-Summit Conference honors.
“We consider Howard, Ingles and Zumalt combo guards,” Ketterman said.
Added Howard: “Nevada is relatively close to home. Cottey was among the schools that showed an early (and persistent) interest in me.”
Kennadi, the daughter of Missy and James Wiseman and Becky and David Howard, said she was unsure of a major but was leaning toward teaching at the elementary level.
