Frontenac, Southeast bow out in state volleyball

SALINA, Kan. — The Frontenac Raiders and the Southeast Lancers each dropped all three matches in their respective state volleyball tournaments on Friday in Salina.

Playing in the Class 4A state tournament, Frontenac fell 23-25, 25-18, 25-17 to Buhler, then 25-6, 25-15 to Topeka Hayden and 25-10, 25-16 to McPherson.

The Raiders, who didn’t advance out of pool play with the three losses, finished their season with a 35-7 record.

Hayden, Louisburg, Rose Hill and McPherson advanced to today’s 4A semifinals.

Southeast bowed out after their three matches of pool play in the 3A state tournament for the third consecutive year. However, the Lancers did win their first set over that span. Southeast lost 18-25, 25-18, 25-13 to Wellsville, 26-24, 25-16 to Silver Lake and 25-10, 25-7 to Hillsboro.

The Lancers finished their season at 34-8.

Garden Plain, Silver Lake, Southeast-Saline and Hillsboro advanced to today’s 3A semifinals.
