SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —
Joplin’s Jessica Greninger and Kickapoo’s Lindsay Johns squared off in a pitcher’s duel on Monday at Kickapoo High School.
In the end, it was Greninger and the Eagles coming out on top 1-0 as she scattered three hits in a complete game shutout.
With no score in the fourth, Joplin’s Kenzie Goswick doubled and later scored on a fielder’s choice by Ashlie Green to push across the only run of the game.
While Greninger was in charge in the circle, Goswick was pacing the offense with three of the Eagles’ six hits.
The victory boosted the Eagles to 2-4 on the season. They entertain Carl Junction at 4:30 p.m. today at the Joplin Athletic Complex.
Carl Junction runs past East Newton
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Syndney Koch struck out nine and hit a two-run home run and Bryce Boyd added a two-run shot of her own as Carl Junction beat East Newton 11-1 in five innings.
Koch threw all five innings, allowing one run — which came in the top of the first — on two hits. Her two-run homer in the third inning was part of a four-run outburst that gave Carl Junction an 8-1 lead. She was 2-for-3 at the plate, adding a double.
Boyd’s two-run shot erased East Newton’s short-lived 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first..
Michaela Horn added three hits for Carl Junction while Katelyn Bebee had two hits and three RBI.
Carl Junction (3-4) is at Joplin today at 4:30 p.m.

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Following a tough weekend of play in Springfield, the Joplin tennis team rebounded with a victory over Carl Junction on Monday to move back to .500 on the regular season.
Both Bulldogs match wins came in singles play, but that’s all they would muster against the Eagles.
Singles victories for the Eagles went to Paula Lanta, Layla Zaidi, Gretchen White and Marissa Shofner. They also swept doubles play with partners Lanta-Zaidi, Ancha-Shofner and Ingle White earning wins.
Rebecca O’Hanahan and Madison Adrian were victorious for the Bulldogs in singles play.
Monday’s win put the Eagles back in the win column after losing to Springfield Central, 8-1, on Saturday at the Southwest Missouri Invitational at Cooper Complex in Springfield.

Cougars fall to Ash Grove
ASH GROVE, Mo. — College Heights overcame a sluggish start but eventually was defeated Monday by Ash Grove 25-9, 21-25, 26-24 in the Cougars’ season-opening match.
Kayte Peters led the Cougars with nine kills and seven points. Athen Taylor had 30 assists and Raven Paige had 12 digs.
“We came out slow in game one, then in game two we really put it together and boosted our momentum,” said College Heights head coach Mary Colin. “In game three, we were up 24-19, then Ash Grove got a spark of momentum and we had a few unforced errors.”

Bulldogs slip past Monett
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Jacob Pelt scored two goals, including the game-winner in the second half, as Carl Junction defeated Monett 2-1 in its season-opening match.
Carl Junction, which outshot Monett 2-1, fell behind in the first half on a goal by Monett’s Eddie Aceves. All three goals by the two teams were unassisted.
