PREP ROUNDUP: Carl Junction wins Bird-Dog match play

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Carl Junction jolted Webb City in the Bird-Dog Match Play Championships at Briarbrook on Friday.

The Bulldogs coasted 14-1. The advantage was 41⁄.2-1⁄2 in doubles and 91⁄2-1⁄2 in singes.

Bulldogs Nic Smith and Andrew Reed drew with Colton Craig-Justin French in doubles and Smith drew with Craig in singles.

Joining Reed as singles winners for Carl Junction — the Cardinals forfeited three matches — were Seth Towery, Keynan Scheurich, Matt Wilson, Kris Bird and Dillan Whistler.


Springfield Catholic 5, Carl Junction 1

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Lydia Holtmann scored four goals and led Springfield Catholic to a 5-1 victory against Carl Junction in the girls soccer opener for both teams.

Holtmann scored three goals in the first half as Catholic took a 3-0 lead into halftime. Holtmann scored her fourth goal after a goal by teammate Michelle Garrison.

Carl Junction, which outshot Catholic 12-5, averted a shutout with a goal by Taylor Beck.
