The Joplin Globe
ROLLA, Mo. —
Joplin’s early deficit was too much to overcome on Friday night.
The Eagles outscored Rolla by 10 in the second half but fell 51-48 to the Bulldogs at Rolla High School
“We couldn’t hit any shots in the first half,” Joplin coach Jeff Williams said. “We were 1-for-12 on 3-pointers early. We missed chip shots and we missed jumpers. It was a slow start.”
Joplin (12-5, 2-1 Ozark) trailed 11-3 after the first quarter and 26-13 at halftime. Junior guard Charlie Brown, who led the Eagles with 25 points, scored 12 of Joplin’s 13 points in the first half.
In the second half, Joplin used the press to climb back into the game. The Eagles pulled within 36-27 at the end of the third quarter, and then scored 21 points in the fourth.
“I was proud of how our kids fought back,” Williams said.
Caleb Copleland led Rolla with 15 points.
Joplin will try to rebound Tuesday at Parkview.

Marquette outscored the Bulldogs 26-17 in the fourth quarter behind Dillon Jones’ 10 points. A trey by the Mustangs with 44 seconds left boosted them ahead 56-54 and, although tied, they never trailed the rest of the game.
