Wyandotte's Mykah Meador signs with Coffeyville

Mykah Meador, slugging third baseman for the Wyandotte High School softball team, has signed a letter of intent with Coffeyville Community College.

Wyandotte coach John Leppla said Friday that Meador had been the catcher until moved to third base to strengthen the Bears.

“Mykah is a very good catcher,” Leppla said. “But she’s a great athlete, has good feet and easily made the transition. She really progressed at the position during the season. She has a lot of power at the plate.

“Now,” Leppla laughed, “we’ll move her to shortstop this spring (in slow pitch).”

Meador, a four-year stalwart for the Bears and all-leaguer in the Lucky ‘7,’ batted third the last two seasons (in fast pitch). The right-handed batting Meador averaged .456 with six home runs as a senior.

Coffeyville coach Tamika Barnes believes that Meador has the ability to contend for a berth in the starting lineup for veteran third sacker Taylor Case.

Mykah, unsure of a major, is the daughter of Valerie and Shannon Meador.

Barnes, a 2004 graduate of Grove High School, is in her second season at Coffeyville.

The former Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Missouri Southern pitcher believes the team will improve dramatically from last season.

Washburn Southwest’s Sarah Conley (pitcher-outfielder), Cherokee Southeast’s Shiloh Blockburger (first baseman), Labette County’s Bailey Myers (outfielder), Jay’s Laura Whiteley (catcher) and Coffeyville’s Morgan Wulf (third baseman) are among area players on the spring roster.
