Webb City girls roll past Willard

WEBB CITY, Mo. — The Webb City girls used big second quarter to pull away and then rolled to a 58-35 nonconference win over the Willard Tigers on Monday night at Webb City High School.

The Cardinals (17-4) led just 11-7 after the first eight minutes before coming alive in the second quarter.

Webb City had five players — all of its starters — score at least four points in the second quarter and outscored the Tigers 24-10 in the frame to pull away to a 35-17 halftime lead.

“We got it going in the second quarter,” Webb City coach Brad Shorter said. “We did some good things. We got some good looks and were able to get to the free throw line eight times.”

The Cardinals outscored Willard 13-6 in the third to build a 48-23 lead before easing to the win in the fourth.

Kaitlin Beason led the Cardinals with a game-high 16 points while Desirea Buerge added 14. Casey Heger, Mikaela Burgess and Megan Heman rounded out the balanced scored attack with eight points each.

Webb City travels to Branson on Friday night.
