Webb City sophomore Desirea Buerge is the only first-teamer among area Class 4 selections on the all-state team chosen by the Missouri Softball Coaches Association.
Buerge, a shortstop and transfer from Carthage, helped the Cardinals finish 7-0 in the Central Ozark Conference Large Division and win a district championship.
Coach Walter Resa’s team lost in the sectional round of the playoffs to visiting Ozark. The Tigers lost to Independence Truman in the Class 4 title game.
The second team elite in Class 4 includes Webb City junior Kaitlin Beason, a right-handed pitcher, and McDonald County teammates Sarah Rickman (senior right-handed hurler) and Courtni Smith (junior outfielder).
Coach Tray Shaddox’s Mustangs, seeded first to the Cardinals’ No. 2, lost 7-6 in 10 innings in the finals of the District 12 Tournament at the Joplin Athletic Complex.
Webb City and McDonald County finished with respective records of 23-5 and 20-4.
The second team in Class 3 includes senior right-handed pitcher Christian Novak of Nevada and junior infielder Kelsey Wiseman of Big 8 Conference champion Monett.
Novak, as a sophomore, helped Tammy Holcomb’s Tigers claim the Class 3 title. Ty Goetz’s Cubs lost in the quarterfinals this season.
The Class 2 second team has three players from the area in Pierce City junior right-handed pitcher McKenzie Moreland, Lamar junior right-handed hurler Emmie Robertson and Washburn Southwest sophomore infielder Coley Ickes.
