Prep roundup: Eagles drop pair on tennis trip

The Joplin High School tennis team dropped 7-2 decisions to Hickman and Rock Bridge on Friday at Bethel Park.

Joplin coach Sean McWilliams was pleased after the second loss.

“We played our worst tennis of the season (against Hickman). I was very disappointed. The conditions weren’t favorable — the wind chill was 27 degrees — but that’s no excuse. It was the same for both teams.

“But the boys turned it around against Rock Bridge,” McWilliams said. “We played to our potential and had some great matches. I was proud of the way we ended the day. Luke (Frogge) said he had the best win of his career.”

The Eagles’ Jeremy Lynn defeated Hickman’s Junyi Wu 6-3, 6-2 at No, 1 singles. Lynn and Duncan Ford also won at No. 2 doubles.

Lynn, against Rock Bridge, beat Alex Jones 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles. Frogge, at No. 2, beat Robit Rao 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Joplin, 7-3 in duals, will visit Jefferson City at 10 a.m. today.
