Carthage starts fast, rolls past Branson

BRANSON, Mo. — Jordan Musser and Seth Beckner hooked up for a 75-yard touchdown pass on Carthage’s first play, igniting the Tigers to a 48-14 victory over Branson on Friday night.

The Tigers (4-3, 3-2 COC Large Division) accumulated 545 yards total offense — 295 rushing on 39 attempts and 250 passing on 13-of-16 accuracy.

Beckner scored five touchdowns, giving him 25 for the season. He rushed 12 times for 185 yards and two scores and caught five passes for 173 yards and three TDs.

Musser completed all eight of his passing attempts for 202 yards, including scoring strikes of 75, 62 and 20 yards to Beckner and 11 yards to E.J. Morgan.

Carthage, ahead 14-0 after one quarter on two Musser-to-Beckner connections, added four touchdowns in the second stanza for a 41-0 lead at the intermission.

Morgan’s 11-yard pass from Musser produced the first score, and Beckner scored the next three on runs of 30 and 5 yards and a 20-yard reception.

Branson (3-4, 2-3) scored its points in the third quarter on Chandler Hall’s 51-yard pass to Gavin Turner and Jordan Bailey’s 63-yard run.

In between, Cameron Priester scored Carthage’s final touchdown on a 21-yard run. Eli Monzon converted 7-of-8 extra points.

The Pirates had 288 total yards — 194 rushing and 94 passing.

Carthage plays another conference road game next Friday at Nixa.
