Jesse Wall resigns as Carl Junction football coach

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Jesse Wall has resigned as head football coach at Carl Junction High School, the school announced on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs went 7-23 in three seasons under Wall, who will remain on staff as athletics director and high school assistant principal.

“We just couldn’t get the wins, but I am proud of the progress each team has made in skill development, teamwork, and overall competitiveness,” Wall said in a press release. “Our players and staff have all worked extremely hard and have had many victories not reflected on the scoreboard.”

“We appreciate what Coach Wall has done for our football program. The program has improved in many ways,” said Phil Cook, Carl Junction superintendent. “All of our athletic programs and facilities have seen recent improvements, and we are looking forward to Coach Wall being able to concentrate on the continued development of each sport for our student-athletes.”

Wall’s duties as athletics director include the supervision of 16 high school sports teams and 12 junior high teams, upkeep and improvements to the athletic facilities, scheduling, game management, and compliance with the Missouri State High School Activities Association.

Wall coached at Midwest City, a Class 6A Oklahoma school and his alma mater, before coming to Carl Junction.

Before that he was head coach at Joplin for seven years, head coach at Carthage for two years, an assistant at Webb City and graduate assistant at Pittsburg State.

Wall was the defensive coordinator at Webb City, helping the Cardinals win two state championships.

Wall as an All-American offensive guard at Pittsburg State in 1987 and 1988 and was named to the Gorillas’ 100th Anniversary Team in 2003. He was inducted into the PSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998.
