Neosho wrestlers take fifth at Kansas City Stampede

Neosho placed fifth in the team standings Saturday at the Kansas City Stampede, a regional tournament with 36 teams from 11 states.

Neosho scored 402.5 points, 16.5 points ahead of sixth-place Kearney. Collinsville (Ill.) won the team competition, followed by Blue Springs, Edmond (Okla.) North and Park Hill.

Three Neosho wrestlers advanced to the championship finals. Kyler Rea was runner-up at 106 pounds, Christian Lopez was runner-up at 220, and Nate Rodriguez won the title at 132 pounds.

River Buttram of Neosho placed eighth at 120, Jacob Brock was fifth at 182, Aaron Clardy was eighth at 285 and Sam Williams slipped to 12th at 152 after an injury default in the quarterfinals.

At the Miami (Okla.) Wardog Invitational, Joplin’s Levi Puckett at 126 and Danny Drouin at 220 placed third and led the Eagles to eighth place in the team standings.

Wagoner won the tournament with 518 points. Miami and Jay tied for fifth with 363 points and Grove was seventh with 326. Joplin scored 312.5.

Joplin’s Landon Taylor was fourth at 182 and Phillip Reitz was fifth at 220.

Miami was led by Eli Hale, who won the title at 126 pounds. Steven Boyd was runner-up at 138, Michael Cox was third at 145 and Jason He was third at 195.

Taylor Watkins of Columbus was runner-up at 152 and teammate Jace McDown was runner-up at 170. Grove’s Benny Steffenson was runner-up at 195.

At the Harrisonville Christmas Tournament, Seneca placed seventh in the team standings led by individual champions Jalen Skaggs at 160 and Will Roark at 120.

Kirksville won the team championship, followed by Smithville and Cameron.

Logan Grady of Seneca was runner-up at 145, Quintin Cotten was seventh at 106 and Cole Lankford was seventh at 126.

Webb City’s Brayden Goff was fourth at 160, Tony Carranco was fifth at 285 and Alex Lane was seventh at 170.

Carl Junction’s Nick Koon was runner-up at 152. Teammates Calvin Bremmerkamp at 182 and Taylor Dawdy at 220 placed seventh.

Dayton Miller of Nevada was third at 106, Slade Stiles was third at 120 and Colby Smith was fourth at 220.
