Carl Junction, Nevada grab wins at O'Dell tourney

CARTHAGE, Mo. —  Dalton Cloven pitched a complete game, lifting the Carl Junction Bulldogs baseball team to a 6-3 win over Webb City on Thursday at the 39th annual Bill O’Dell Tournament at Carl Lewton Stadium.

Nevada beat Seneca 6-5 in the second game. The score of Lamar vs. Monett was unavailable.

The right-handed Cloven scattered seven hits, fanned three batters and walked only one.

“He worked ahead of batters,” Carl Junction coach Flave Darnell said. “He did a good job of throwing strike one.”

Carl Junction scored three runs in the top of the seventh, and Cloven held the Cardinals scoreless in the bottom of the inning.

The Bulldogs managed nine hits for the game. Branche McGriff led the way at the plate with two hits and two RBI.

Webb City pitcher Cade Crouch recorded the loss.

Seth Watkins and Crouch each had a double for the Cardinals.

Carl Junction improved to 1-1 in pool play after losing 8-3 to Seneca on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will face Nevada at 4:30 p.m. today.
