Brown sparks Eagles past Olathe North

—  Charlie Brown’s 21 points paced three players in double figures as Joplin defeated Olathe North 53-46 Friday afternoon in the Ralph Miller Classic at Chanute High School.

The Eagles (10-4) face the host Blue Comets today at 3:45 p.m. in the fifth-place game.

Brown hit one 3-point goal among his seven field goal, and he went 6-for-6 at the foul line, giving him 27 consecutive successful free throws during the last three games.

Adam St. Peter and Abe Hueller contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Eagles. Hueller had eight points in the first half, and St. Peter scored eight after the intermission.

Joplin outscored Olathe North (1-8) 15-7 in the second period to open a 24-15 halftime advantage.

Sarcoxie Tournament

SARCOXIE, Mo. — Riverton defeated McAuley Catholic 46-33 and Jasper beat Exeter 31-18 in girls games in the Bears’ annual tournament.

Today’s five-game finals session tips off at noon with the girls fifth-place contest between Sarcoxie and College Heights Christian.

Riverton outscored McAuley 13-6 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

The Rams received 14 points from Mattea Cupp and 13 from Madi Hull. Victoria Foley tallied 13 for the Warriors.

Adi Etcheson, Monica Steeves and Elizabeth Maneval combined for 22 Jasper points. Logan Senters had 10 for Exeter.

East Newton boys 47, McAuley 38

GRANBY, Mo. — Bryce Zimmerman scored 18 points and Sam Swartz 12 to guide the Patriots.

East Newton, 4-12, led 20-17 at the half and outscored the Warriors 17-7 in the third period.

Shaw Robertson scored 19 points for McAuley.

Carl Junction girls 39, McDonald County 35

ANDERSON, Mo. — Carl Junction outscored the host Mustangs 19-14 in the second half to erase a one-point halftime deficit.

Sydney Koch netted 14 points and Bryce Boyd added 11 for Carl Jucntion (7-8).

Preslea Reece captured game honors with 18 points for McDonald County (3-11).
