Wheaton standout to play baseball at Central Methodist

Tyler Musick remembers wanting to follow in his older brothers’ footsteps.

His oldest brother, Chris Musick, signed to compete in track and field at Missouri Southern in 2007. James Musick signed to play baseball at Ozark Christian College in 2010.

Earlier this month, it was Tyler’s turn to enter the world of college athletics.

Tyler Musick, a multi-sport athlete for Wheaton High School, signed to play baseball at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo.

“It’s something I’ve been shooting for my whole life,” Musick said.

“I want to get to the next level, prove myself and see where it takes off from there.”

Competing at the NAIA level, the Central Methodist Eagles finished 25-13 overall and 19-7 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference this past spring.

Nate Breland is taking over as the Eagles’ head coach after being an assistant.

Musick, who played shortstop, third base and pitcher for Wheaton, will compete for playing time at short and third for Central Methodist.

His bat was a plus in high school. Musick said he hit .500 his junior season at Wheaton and better than .400 his senior year.

Musick just completed his third season of AAA American Legion baseball for Monett Post 91.

Tyler is the son of Jeff and Donna Musick of Purdy.
