Vicki Spivy will be roaming the sidelines coaching girls basketball in 2012-13 at Hurley High School.
It will be Spivy’ 20th season as a head coach after three at Joplin High School.
Spivy said the Hurley job became vacant with the resignation of Trevor Towe after five years at the helm. Spivy said that Towe took a teaching position in the Willard system.
Spivy said her new job is about 10 miles away from home (at Billings).
The Evangel University graduate was at Galena (Mo.) for three years, Billings for 12 and Morrisville for one before taking the Joplin post.
Class 1 Hurley is a member of the Mark Twain Conference.
“I’m excited,” Spivy, a 1982 graduate of Fair Grove High School, said. “I’ve met the team. We’re expecting good things.
“They (the Tigers) have everyone returning,” Spivy said. “We’re scheduled to have just one senior next season. They play a strong schedule for a Class 1 team.
“I believe Chadwick has dominated the Mark Twain Conference in recent seasons,” Spivy said.
Hurley, host for the Class 1 District 4 Tournament held at Rogersville this past season, lost to third-seeded Bakersfield in the first round.
Vicki’s husband, Jim, is nearing 10 years with the Strafford school system. He also is a member of the Joplin Basketball Officials Association.
Their son, Jeremy, 22, is a fleet manager for TCSI/Transland. Jeremy plans to marry one of his mom’s former Billings basketball players, Jordan Chastain, in July.
