COMMMERCE, Okla. —
The 14th annual Mickey Mantle Wooden Bat Classic starts today with three games in the small-school Comet Division.
Games are Afton vs. Haskell at 4 p.m., Wyandotte vs. Fairland at 6 and Commerce vs. Quapaw at 8.
Yankee Pool teams are Afton, Commerce, Haskell and Quapaw. Diamond, Fairland and Wyandotte are in the Pinstripe Pool.
Tuesday’s schedule is Diamond vs. Fairland at 4 p.m., the winner of Haskell-Afton vs. loser of Commerce-Quapaw at 6 and the loser of Haskell-Afton vs. the winner of Commerce-Quapaw at 8.
Semifinals will be held on Friday at noon, 2:30 p.m., 4:30 and 7.
The four-team Triple Crown Division — or large school — will be played Thursday through Saturday.
Thursday games in the Triple Crown Division are Locust Grove vs. Tahlequah Sequoyah at noon, McDonald County vs. Kansas at 2:30 p.m. and the winner of Sequoyah-Locust Grove vs. winner of McDonald County-Kansas at 4:30.
Diamond and Wyandotte will clash at 7 p.m. on Thursday in a Comet Division contest.
Wyandotte beat Kansas 1-0 for the Comet Division crown in 2012. The Triple Crown final between Salina and Tahlequah Sequoyah was canceled because of inclement weather.
Willie Wilson, former Kansas City Royal all-star outfielder, is the special guest this year for the Mantle Classic Awards Banquet.
Tickets to attend the banquet are $20 at the door or $17 bought during the classic. The banquet will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the First Christian Church in Miami.
Admission prices to attend games are $4 and $2.
