Two of Ward’s goals came in the first half as Joplin built a 3-0 halftime lead. Joplin outshot Lebanon 23-0.
“In the first half, we came out a little flat,” said Joplin head coach Ed Miller. “We changed some things around in the second half and did a lot better job. It was the first game, so we have some things to fix.”
Ryan Estus had four assists, two of them on goals by Domi Salcedo. Luis Santillan scored early in the second half with an assist by Will Krolman, and Justice Ward scored the Eagles seventh goal assisted by Estus. Locke McAllister assisted Ward’s third goal.
“I thought we did a great job moving the ball through the midfield,” Miller said. “The defense did a great job, moved the ball from side to side.”
