Joplin qualifies in 10 events
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Joplin’s boys qualified for 10 of the 11 events entered for Thursday’s finals in the annual Southwest Missouri Championships at the Foster Natatorium.
“I’m very happy,” Eagle coach Blair Dance said. “We had several individuals lower their times.
“We didn’t qualify anyone in the open 500 freestyle,” Dance said. “We don’t compete in diving.
“Chris Martucci turned in a state qualifying time in the butterfly (with 56.19),” Dance said. “That’s a first (with the resumption of the boys program). We’ll see how things go on Thursday (starting at 5 p.m.).”
Martucci’s effort placed third in the butterfly prelims, Dance noted, and he was sixth in the backstroke.
Members of the sixth-place medley relay team were Cameron Ball, Alex Chesney, Martucci and Michael Swanson. Sixth in the 200 free relay were Martucci, Ball, Swanson and Ramsey Ramirez, Tenth in the 400 free relay were Ramirez, Blake Stearnes, Kyle Dillon and Ryan Grant.
Other individuals qualifying were Ball (backstroke), Sean Casey (butterfly), Chesney (200 IM, breaststroke), Grant (butterfly, backstroke), Ramirez (200 free) and Swanson (50 free, 100 free).
