Prep roundup: Cougars win tourney opener

MILLER, Mo. — Drew Kilgore pitched a three-hitter and drove in four runs as College Heights Christian School downed Greenfield 11-1 Wednesday in the first round of the Miller Tournament.

The Cougars (4-9) advance to Friday’s 5:15 p.m. semifinal game against Pierce City or Exeter.

Kolgore struck out six batters and walked three in the five-inning contest.

His bases-loaded double highlighted a five-run second inning when the Cougars snapped a 1-1 tie, and he drove in another run with a triple in the fifth.

Logan Hobbs went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs for the Cougars, and Josh Woodmansee contributed two singles and one RBI.

Spring River Valley Conference


PIERCE CITY, Mo. — Sarcoxie’s boys and Jasper’s girls captured team championships Monday in the Spring River Valley Conference track and field meet.

College Heights placed fifth in both divisions, scoring 53 points in the boys meet and 38 in the girls meet.

The Cougars’ Ryan Beaver won the 800 and 1600 meters, and Adam Lewis won the 400.

Other double winners were Sarcoxie’s Logan Jones in the 110 high and 300 intermediate hurdles and Pierce City’s Cedric O’Hara in the 100 and 200 and Zack Hyde in the long jump and triple jump.

Savannah Beaver of College Heights took the girls 800 and 1600 meters. Pierce City’s Bailee Hayward won the 100 and triple jump.
