CARTHAGE, Mo. —
Joplin High School’s Nick Yuhas matched par-71 to claim medalist honors in the annual Sonic Drive Inn/Carthage Invitational boys prep golf tournament on Monday at the Carthage Municipal Golf Course.
Republic, however, nipped the Eagles 334-336 for team championship honors, and just three shots separated the next five teams — Carl Junction 341, Lamar and Carthage 342, Nixa 343 and Neosho 344.
Yuhas carded a 2-over-par 37 on the front nine and a 2-under 34 on the back for his 71.
“The greens were just aerated last week,” Joplin coach Jack Pace said. “It was a pretty salty round for the conditions.”
A three-way tie for second place at 76 involved Griffen Locke of Joplin, Blake Augustine of Neosho and Andrew Quitno of Nevada.
Phillip Roller of Purdy placed fifth with 79, followed by Dylan Bekemeier of Republic, Nick Carley of Branson and Miles Aduddell of Ozark at 80. A logjam at 81 had Derrick Catron of Carthage, Bradley Jumper of Seneca, Landon Maberry of Lamar, Beau Allen of Republic and Max Perez of Branson.
Joplin’s next match is the Ozark Conference meet on Monday in Rolla.
